The Holy Ghost

"The Holy Ghost," p. 105, introduces and explains the Holy Ghost in simple and meaningful way.  The rhyming words are helpful in teaching this song.

First verse - sing it for the children. (If some children know it, invite them to sing along.)  Tell the children that Jesus promised to send "the comforter" or Holy Ghost after Christ was crucified.  The Holy Ghost would be a comforter to us and guide us to do what is right.

  • Sing the 1st two lines
  • Ask the children to sing it with you
  • What words rhyme? (send and friend)
  • Sing it with the children 3 times
  • Sing the last two lines
  • To add emphasis to the 3rd line, sing it softly.
  • What words rhyme? (voice and rejoice)

Follow the same pattern for the second verse.  Be sure to sing each section at least 3 times.  Challenge the children to sing it at home.

Baptism Sharing

We can't teach enough about baptism, confirmation and the 4th article of faith.  Choose songs from the Primary Songbook including p. 105, 100 and 103.

Use pictures from your ward library of people - children and adults, being baptized and/or confirmed.  Ask a child to pick a picture and tell something about baptism.  If they have been baptized, they could tell one thing that they remember about it.  If they haven't, they could tell something that they are looking forward to being baptized.

Sing one of the baptism songs then ask another child to share their thoughts. continue singing a song after each child.  You might want to ask one of the adults to share also.

Baptism

Baptism is a very important ordinance.  Whether we've been baptized or preparing to be, reminders of what it is and about is always helpful.

Begin with Baptism, p. 100, that tells about Christ's baptism and why we should be baptized.  Use a picture of Christ being baptized by John the Baptist.

When I Am Baptized, p. 103, tells about "being made clean."  Use a picture of a rainbow and/or a child being baptized.

The Holy Ghost, p.105, tells about the gift of the Holy Ghost and His purpose.  Share the fact that the Holy Ghost whispers, or a feeling and that we must listen carefully.  We must live so we can be close to our Heavenly Father and hear the promptings of the Holy Ghost.  Use a picture of a child being confirmed.

The Holy Ghost 2nd verse

The second verse of The Holy Ghost further explains about the Holy Ghost.  This verse answers the following questions:

  1. What is it called when we receive the Holy Ghost?  And when we are confirmed
  2. How do we receive the Holy Ghost?   By sacred priesthood power
  3. What does the Holy ghost do?   The Holy Ghost is given to us to guide us every hour.
  4. What must I do?  May I always listen to that still small voice.
  5. How will He help me?  With his light I'll do what's right each time i make a choice.
Use a picture of a child being confirmed.  Ask each question, one at a time and sing the answer.  Then have the children sing the phrase.  Continue until they know the whole song.  Repeat the verse again.  Now add the first verse.
