I Feel My Savior's Love

There are 4 verses to "I Feel My Savior's Love," p. 74.  All of them are well worth teaching to the children.  There are 4 short phrases in each verse and then the chorus.

You are your BEST visual aid.  You can teach this song with a few simple actions.

  • I feel my Savior's love - cross your arms and rub your upper arms - like a hug.
  • In all the world around me - make a circle with your arms
  • His Spirit warms my soul - cross your arms like a hug.
  • Through ev'rything I see. - hand over your eyes as if looking at something
2nd verse

  • I feel my Savior's love - cross your arms and rub your upper arms - like a hug.
  • It's gentleness enfolds me - cross your arms like a hug
  • And when I kneel to pray - touch your knees and bend them slightly
  • My heart is filled with peace - put one or both hands over your heart

  • 3rd verse
    • I feel my Savior's love - cross your arms and rub your upper arms - like a hug.
    • And know that He will bless me - both hands on your head as if being blessed
    • I offer Him my heart - hand over your heart and then move your hand upward as if giving it to God
    • My shepherd He will be - make the motion of grabbing a staff and tap it on the floor
    4th verse
    • I'll share my Savior's love - both hands on your heart then move them outward as if giving it to everyone
    • By serving others freely - do an action of service - sweeping, shoveling, dusting, pulling weeds, etc.
    • In serving I am blessed - both hands on your head as if being blessed
    • In giving I receive - hands out then bring them in close to you
    Chorus
    • Sing the chorus
    • Ask the children to come up with an action for each phrase or you can teach each phrase by having the children sing it 3 times after you sing it.

    Love One Another

"Love One Another," p. 136, is the perfect song to teach children about love.  In fact, it is used 4 times in 4 lines.  The phrase "love one another" is sung 3 times.

If this is new to your primary, sing each line and then have the children sing it with you 3 times.  Sing the whole song and ask the children to hold up one finger every time they sing "love."

Once they know the song, try teaching them the sign language on page 137.  This will help seal the words in their minds.

Ask the ward music director to sing this hymns in Sacrament meeting sometime this month.  This is a great way to reinforce learning in primary.

    Because He Loves Us

My theme this week is "Because He Loves Us."
Prepare the following word strips: (If this list is too long, choose a few to meet your needs)
    • love and tenderness
    • peace and holiness
    • pathway we should go
    • walk with men on earth
    •  sacrifice and death
    • have faith, have hope
    • Live like His Son
    • live is a gift
    • a plan
    • a purpose
    • my choice
    • home on earth
    • God's light
    • holding fast
    • work, pray
    • happy on earth
    •  home above
Cut out 17 hearts (or as many hearts as you have phrases) - red, pink, white - or any color
Tape the strips to the back of the hearts (you may have to fold the strips)
Tape the hearts with the strips on the board in front of the room or on the walls around the room.

    • Tell the children that the Lord has given us so many things and done so much for us all because He loves us.
    • Tell them that you have spread His love all over the board or room.
    • On the back of each heart is a phrase from He Sent His Son or I Will Follow God's Plan.
    • Ask two or three children to pick a heart, read the phrase and have them guess which song the words are from.
    • If your phrase is from He Sent His Son, stand on the right of the room (or wherever you would like them to stand).
    • If your phrase is from I Will Follow God's Plan, stand on the left side.
    • Sing the song and as soon as the children hear/sing the words on the heart, have them stand up.
    • After they sing the phrase they are to sit back down because there might be another phrase from that song that they will need to stand up for.
Hopefully, you can pick all the hearts. It's better to be prepared for more time than have too little prepared. No matter how many hearts that are chosen, you will be able to sing those songs several times.  A great review!
